More than just a store selling pecans, The Cabin is a tourism destination with limitless options, ready to bring a new vibrancy to Goldthwaite.
The People Behind The Cabin
Jessica Seward, one of the managing partners at The Cabin has deep roots in the area. Growing up in Shields, Southern Coleman County, she and her sister, Charliese, spent a lot of time in the summers with her great-grandparents, Ruth and Loy Long, in Goldthwaite. Jessica later married Shan Seward of Goldthwaite, who when growing up, lived just down the street from Jessica’s great-grandparents! After a career as a nurse in Lubbock and Austin, Jessica and Shan moved back to Goldthwaite to raise their now 10-year-old son, Hudson. Jessica helped in building the food safety program at pecans.com, and eagerly jumped into a whole new profession. The new challenge and opportunity brought on growth and learning, as well as a wealth of experience and a passion for building a community-focused business.
Joe Brooks, Jessica’s business partner, finds immense joy in working at The Cabin. With 12 years of experience at pecans.com, Joe brings a wealth of knowledge about the pecan industry. Joe met his wife Gail at Midkiff, Texas and moved to Goldthwaite to raise their boys Cade and Clark. They have always been active in the Goldthwaite community and Joe brings his friendly, welcoming attitude to The Cabin, which he describes as one of the most exciting projects in his career.

The Cabin is more than just a store. It’s a place where travelers can buy a unique gift, enjoy clean amenities, and experience a touch of nostalgia with an old-fashioned ice cream bar and soda fountain. The focus is on quality, with products almost exclusively from small, private Texas or U.S. business owners. From handmade custom pecan products to children’s books and travel blankets, there’s something for everyone.
Jessica and Joe have big plans for The Cabin, including future sip-and-shop events, outdoor activities under the pecan trees, and various community-focused events. They also plan on expanding their operations to include their own shelling plant, ensuring the highest quality pecans for their customers.

While The Cabin continues to offer all the beloved pecan products from the old pecans.com location such as coffee, pralines, bags of pecans by the pound, and plenty of candied varieties, they’ve also introduced a range of new items. From Texas-made gifts to small unique brands, there’s a strong emphasis on supporting small businesses. The ice cream bar and soda jerk, with its crafted sodas from the 1950s, adds a delightful touch of nostalgia. All of their crafted soda recipes are original and developed in-house.
Jessica and Joe are passionate about educating the younger generation on the value of pecans. While their traditional audience has mostly been those who use pecans for pies, they are now promoting pecans as a high-protein snack, perfect for salads and other modern dishes that appeal to younger audiences.

Jessica and Joe have their own favorite pecan products: Joe loves the Splenda Praline Patty, while Jessica’s favorite is the Texas Burn Pecan, a savory roasted pecan. They are constantly working on new recipes, trying different flavor combinations, all while ensuring that each new idea goes through a rigorous testing process before hitting the shelves.
In addition to pecans, The Cabin also offers a range of other products. Shan, Jess, and their family raise the best beef you will find! It’s a perfect mix of Angus and Akaushi and only leaves the ranch to be processed. The Cabin offers various cuts, including ribeyes, chuck roast, ground beef, and T-bones. If you are more into stocking that freezer, they can make that happen for you as well!
